How dare they try to end this beauty?

I don't actually know what to write about; I just wanted to write. So in lieu of some rambling about waaawaa I'm so introverted waawaa astrology waaa love waaaa life, here's the song that's the namesake for my journal. Just to put it out there. "Walking in Space" from Hair.



I can't begin to say how much I love Hair. I used to love the movie a lot, watch it all the time (though stop right before the ending...if you've seen it, surely you understand). As someone who should've grown up in an era of peace, love, and idealism (along with the...more shady parts of their culture), it was the perfect way to escape to the 60s, and it's much easier to get friends to watch an awesome movie musical with you than it is to get them to actually twirl around in a park playing tambourines and wearing scarves and beads. So it was kind of my favorite way to share my love of the 60s with other people.

But now that I've seen the stage show, it isn't quite the same. I still love getting people to watch the movie with me, but I'd much rather be back in New York being handed flowers and protest flyers by the cast members, and I'd much rather be making the awkward turtle next to my mother when everyone whips their clothes off onstage, and I'd much rather hear the version of "Walking in Space" from the Broadway show. It was always a nice song in the movie, but I never really realized how beautiful it was, because the lyrics and harmonies are obscured by shots of people training for war and bombs going off and gas chambers. Kind of kills the beauty.



But, really, why can't people find beauty and happiness in simple things like other people nowadays? Okay, so it was more like they were finding beauty and happiness in LSD, but still. It is a show about the 60s and all...
